Hockey Fights of the Week: 12/16 – 12/22

Happy Holidays from all of us at PDL! As you prepare to enjoy the holiday festivities, take a moment to reflect on what's important to you and what makes life special. For us, we love the great game of hockey and nearly everything associated with it aside from a few notable (Sorry Gary) exceptions.

We hope this holiday edition of Hockey Fights of the Week prepares you mentally for the upcoming battle with your extended family.

5. Tom Wilson (WAS) vs Nicklas Grossmann (PHI) – Dec 17

This incident shouldn't be classified as a fight. Wilson goes out of his way (about 100 feet) to deliver a dirty hit and Grossman does his best to make him pay. These are the types of hits which need to be removed from the game and they're one of the reasons the players keep voting in favor of keeping fighting in the game.

4. Tim Jackman (ANH) vs Matt Martin (NYI) – Dec 21

Watch how far the gloves fly when Jackman and Martin tangle. We may need to change the "drop the gloves" expression to "throw the gloves as far and high as possible" for all future bouts. Honestly, do players try to see how far they'll go or is it just circumstantial? We long for the day when a player clears the glass on the opposite side of the arena before scrapping.

3. Aaron Volpatti (WAS) vs Adam Hall (PHI) – Dec 17

There's organized, deliberate fights and then there's this clash between Volpatti and Hall. Arms and legs litter the screen as the two spin, tumble and do their absolute best to harm one another in a fight which looks like it's full of anger and hatred.

2. Troy Bodie (TOR) vs Robert Bortuzzo (PIT) – Dec 16

Spoiler alert: Bodie appears in both of this week's top fights. Unfortunately for this Maple Leaf, he's on the losing end of both scraps. Bodie is manhandled by Bortuzzo in this one, barely registering a hit on the Penguin.

1. Troy Bodie (TOR) vs Zach Sill (PIT) – Dec 16

After resting through the intermission, Bodie came out swinging. Once again, he finds himself on the losing end of a fight with a Pittsburgh Penguin. Bodie is much better in this fight, but when you factor in the smaller size of his opponent, you have to take some points off. Sill starts slow and finishes strong, sending Bodie down to the ice with a brutal punch.
