This Weekend in NFL Stupid highlights the dumbest moments and decisions in football throughout the season. Coming out of the divisional round, we give you the 10 stupidest things from the four games on the docket, with several poor Jason Garrett decisions leading the way.

1. After scoring to cut the Los Angeles lead to nine points with 2:11 remaining, Jason Garrett had the Cowboys kick the PAT. Of course, it makes far more sense to go for two right away so that you know what work you have left to do going forward.

2. And then he opted to kick the ball away. I’m sick and tired of coaches failing to realize that it’s always worth trying the onside kick in those situations. You can still get the ball back either way with a defensive three-and-out, even if you fail on an onside-kick attempt. Field position is wildly overrated. Of course, the Cowboys never got the ball back.

3. Garrett actually initially signaled for an extra point when Dallas cut the Los Angeles lead to 10 points in the third quarter. Looks like somebody told him he was being an idiot, because there’s no reason to become conservative in hopes of securing a nine-point deficit.

4. The Eagles used a timeout on a 2nd-and-7 snap less than a minute into the third quarter of a four-point game. When are coaches going to realize that a timeout in a close game is worth far more than five yards? The Eagles gained three yards on the following play and punted one play later.

5. There was absolutely no reason for the Eagles to rush this fateful snap. In fact, they’d have been better off regrouping and letting the clock run down. It was on their side at that point in time.

6. This terrible third-down play call might have cost the Saints three points and could have easily cost them the game. You’ve got great pass-catching backs and the highest-rated passer in the NFL, Sean Payton…

7. The Rams elected to punt on a 4th-and-2 at the Dallas 45-yard line. What’s the point of having C.J. Anderson and Todd Gurley? Forfeiting potential points in order to buy a few extra yards for your defense (in this case, just 23!) is ludicrous.

8. But on the following series, this predictable, unimaginative fourth-down play call might have cost Dallas the game. Seriously, Jason?

9. Can you be “in the grasp” of a teammate? This might have cost the Cowboys three critical points.

10. Why did Doug Pederson decline a third-down holding penalty that gave New Orleans a 4th-and-1? Doesn’t he know that the Saints are aggressive and love fakes, and that the entire league is now in love with going for it on 4th-and-short? That decision led to a tide-turning fake-punt conversion for New Orleans.
